Flexible Intensive Treatment (FIT) Program

We have developed the Flexible Intensive Treatment (FIT) Program when a higher level of care is needed for new, current and past clients. FIT is available for those who are seeking intensive outpatient treatment for eating disorders, trauma related disorders, anxiety, and depression.

The program is offered 3 evenings a week for 3 hours at a time. Each evening addresses the following themes:

  • Skills & Resources
  • Relationship With Self & Relationships With Others
  • Body Wellness & Creative Expression

Treatment is individualized based upon each client’s personal needs and goals. The program is a combination of individual and group therapy, as well as family therapy when it is indicated.

What makes FIT unique is:

  • The program is in a cozy setting in the community, instead of at a facility.
  • Clients may be followed their own Primary Care Physician, Psychiatrist, and Nutritionist in the community. When requested, Art of Awareness provides referrals to specialized medical providers.
  • The FIT Program collaborates with the client’s multi-disciplinary team of providers.
  • As clients progress in treatment, there are options to step down into a lower level of care, with a focus on relapse prevention and wellness maintenance.

Participants must meet the following criteria to qualify for the FIT Program:

  • The motivation to recover is at minimum fair.
  • Must be seen by a doctor for medical clearance 72 hours prior to admission.
  • Participant is medically stable.
  • May be required to be seen by a Psychiatrist by the 3rd day of admission.
  • Symptoms are causing impairment in social, occupational or family functioning and require intensive and structured intervention.
  • There is no feasible suicidal intent or plan.
  • Must be at more than 80% of ideal body weight or more than18 BMI, with no need for IVs or a feeding tube.
  • Participant must have normal lab tests or abnormalities that do not require active medical intervention.
  • Participant has adequate cognitive abilities, to assume responsibility for behavioral change, and is capable of developing skills to cope with their symptoms.
  • There is continued difficulty despite attempted treatment at lower levels of care.

Massage Therapy

Cherie Cayer, licensed massage therapist, is an affiliated provider of Art of Awareness. Cherie offers the following types of massage: Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports Massage and Reflexology. Cherie writes “Massage offers a time to relax, to receive, to open to the wisdom the body holds for its own restoration. Safe, therapeutic touch is the foundation of every massage I offer. Each session is unique- designed to fit an individual’s needs on a visit-to-visit basis, because every person holds the memory of their day, their week, their lifetime differently in each cell of their body."
